One of the truly great football players to come out of our area was Chris Deaton who played at Johnson Central before continuing his career at Marshall University.
At Marshall University he played from 1990-93 & Chris set what was then a record of 56 consecutive starts as a left and right offensive tackle. He helped Marshall to a National Championship in 1992..

Chris was awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the Southern Conference’s best blocker in 1993. He was a two-time I-AA All-American and four-time All-Southern Conference selection.
In 2015 Deaton was inducted into Marshall’s Hall of Fame.
